Lithium Ion Rechargeable Batteries
Lithium Ion Batteries
Block & Leviton represents the Cities of Richmond, California, and Palo Alto, California, in a class action seeking damages for overpriced lithium ion batteries used in schools and by public safety officers, among other consumers. Two of the defendants have pled guilty to criminal charges that, beginning in 2002, they fixed the prices of lithium ion rechargeable batteries in the United States. As a result of Defendants' misconduct, purchasers like these public entities paid too much for products containing those batteries, such as laptops, power tools, and camcorders.
We are seeking to get consumers' money back and to enjoin similar conduct in the future. On March 25, 2016, the court preliminarily approved a settlement of the claims against the Sony defendants in the amount of $19 million. Additional information regarding the partial settlement is available at www.BatteriesDirectPurchaserAntitrustSettlement.com. Discovery is underway against the remaining defendants.
